Wasserstad-South landscape design

17 February 2022

The multidisciplinary team, BurtonHamfelt urban architecture, UP+, LOLA Landscape Architects and SHP have been awarded to design a new forward-thinking urban development for living, working and urban recreation in Wasserstadt-South, Hannover. The 2.1 ha competition site is part of the previously undeveloped part of the former Continental Tire factory which will accommodate the second phase of Wasserstadt Limmer.

According to the jury, “The winning design creates an attractive and lively district living environment for different population groups, with a strong orientation to the water surrounded by green and a new river promenade,” says Dr. Andreas Mattner, Managing Director at the project partner ECE Work & Live. “This is an excellent basis for further planning.”

Together with the winning team for Wasserstadt-North, the Rotterdam-based Monadnock, Planersocietät from Dortmund and chora blau creates together a unique Dutch-based approach. Both teams will be immediately engaged to develop the functional plan, public spaces and design of the buildings.

Client: Hannover Municipality, Wasserstadt Limmer GmbH & Co. KG
