It’s official: every home in De Zaanse Helden is now occupied! The neighboring Molenpark is seamlessly connected to the stunning roof garden designed by LOLA, and the final touches are being added to the public spaces. With that, De Zaanse Helden is now completed.
For this new residential complex, LOLA, working in collaboration with Deltavormgroep, Bureau Stadsnatuur, and havermans:hielkema architects, has elevated the essence of the Zaan polder landscape. This green space lies like a ‘landscape archipelago’ on top of the parking and acts as a connecting element between the residential buildings. The design offers a rich mosaic of planting, places to dwell, and routes inspired by the waterways and long, narrow plots of the traditional agricultural landscape. The rooftop garden is conceived as an ‘ecological incubator’: biodiverse, green, and nature‑inclusive. Nesting boxes, native planting, and natural play elements bring residents closer to nature.
On the 23rd of January alderman Van der Laan officially opened the complex with a ceremonial act on the walkway that is part of De Zaanse Helden public space.
