New project Haarlem Station Area

15 April 2026

The team BURA-LOLA-Goudappel has been selected to develop the Environmental Requirements Program, Urban Development Plan, and Preliminary Design for Public Space for the Haarlem Station Area. Following a European tender, the team was selected by the municipality of Haarlem, which is working closely with Vastint, the owner of the Beresteyn complex.

The goal of the project is to create a well-functioning public transit hub, an attractive station area, and an inviting entrance to the city (on the north and south sides) – where people travel, stay, live, and work – combined with preserving the qualities of the nationally listed station, the protected cityscape, and a careful integration into the morphology of the historic city center. There is an opportunity to use the redevelopment of the Beresteyn complex to transform the area surrounding the current bus station, to redesign Stationsplein much more effectively, and to connect it to the city.

Owner Vastint has selected the architectural firms INBO and Winhov to collaborate with the station area design team. Over the coming year, we will work in phases toward a consensus-based Program of Requirements, Site Plan, and Public Space Plan, in collaboration with the City of Haarlem, Vastint, the railway stakeholders, the Province of North Holland, local businesses and residents, and the people of Haarlem.
