Hogekampplein construction finished

28 July 2020

We are excited to show you the final results of the redevelopment of Hogekamp square at University Twente.

The transformation of the Hogekamp building, a 10-storey faculty building from the 1960s, into a residential complex stimulated the redevelopment of the adjacent area. The square now serves as the public entrance of the surrounding buildings with an open character, more functions and an overall better quality. The straight lines complement the building and at the same time the lush planting forms a beautiful contrast and creates a pleasant public space.

Our design strategy creates the conditions for different forms of use of the square, without dictating them. It is an open end approach to square design, which addresses the constantly changing use and changing user groups. The main eye-catcher are the blue tribunes, they follow the lines, color and structure of the Hogekamp building.

In combination with the modular, movable and stackable blocks, with seating areas for working and studying, the square has endless possibilities. The differences in height have many advantages: the modules make places and spaces, increase use possibilities, reduce the scale of the square, make it possible to hide cars and inspire for unplanned forms of use such as sports.
