Dutch pedestrian award for Singelpark Leiden

23 October 2020

During the National Pedestrian Congress (Nationale Voetgangerscongres), Singelpark Leiden was rewarded with the ‘LoopAward 2020’. It’s the first time this award for the best Dutch walking initiative has been granted by Platform Ruimte voor Lopen.

The almost seven kilometers long park is the result of the masterplan developed by LOLA landscape architects and Studio Karst. The green and infrastructural qualities of the historic water line form the base of the plan. By connecting various existing parks, each with its character, an attractive and continuous green environment completes the historic city center of Leiden.

It is good to see how the Leiden municipality and Friends of the Singelpark have taken the project to the next phase. Singelpark Leiden forms a physical and social connection between the city center and the surrounding neighborhoods. Following the plan, residents and local organizations are actively involved in the development, maintenance, and programming of the area. The project has been rewarded with the award because of the impact and inspiration it generated.
