Update gardens Bajeskwartier Amsterdam

21 October 2021

For the transformation of the Bajeskwartier complex LOLA has been working on the design of about 70 public gardens for all residents and visitors, including mammals, birds and insects. In many of the public gardens people can do sports, have a picnic, or just quietly to listen to a podcast. Now the design is finally reaching its completion! New impressions have been made to show the green and inviting area Bajeskwartier is going to be.

Water gardens full of plants ensure that the water circulates and is cleaned, after which it flows into the canal around the complex. Climbing plants will grow on the old prison wall, making it a home for birds and insects. Fruit trees are planted against the wall and sporty people can use it to do bouldering. The remains of the old prison towers are given a new function in the public space as street furniture, pergola or paving.
