LOLA wins landscape design of Campus Wandelboslaan

12 February 2024

In collaboration with BiermanHenket and Architecten-en-en, LOLA Landscape Architects won the tender for the development of Campus Wandelboslaan in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Commissioned by the Onderwijsgroep Tilburg, the transformative concept for the W-Campus integrates the future knowledge quarter, with a focus on reuse and respect of the former monumental Pauluslyceum. The heritage of the Pauluslyceum forms a basis of character that provides support to develop a future-proof sustainable educational building and surrounding landscape.

W-Campus will bring together close to 13,000 students from various MBO courses across the city. Bringing institutional establishments together in one building enables cross-pollination between the courses, stronger collaborations, and connections with the city of Tilburg and beyond. Campus W is a catalyzer for furthering education, sparking encounters and learning in the public space areas, while also complementing Tilburg municipality’s plan ambitions for the Kenniskwartier, the area between the Spoorzone area and the university.

The landscape design for this campus takes an outside-in approach. By better connecting the natural elements with the urban structures, a stronger cohesive character is given to the campus. More trees, nicer planting, and lighting make the school better connected to the street and wider surroundings. The campus is like ‘smart nature’ – a green that contributes to optimal concentration, and a healthy lifestyle, purifies the air, and mitigates the effects of climate change while stimulating biodiversity.
