LOLA and Gebiedsmanagers win Rivierzone Vlaardingen tender

1 July 2024

The municipality of Vlaardingen wants to restore the city’s connection with the river and make the Rivierzone (river zone) an attractive area for living, working and recreation. The Rivierzone program consists of three areas: the Koningin Wilhelmina haven, Maaswijk (which includes the Maaspark) and the Southern Inner City. With the various projects, the development of the area meets the housing needs of residents while adding space for recreation.

LOLA Landscape Architects and Gebiedsmanagers have successfully won the tender to design the integrated area vision, image quality plan, and sketch design for the Rivierzone in Vlaardingen, The Netherlands. Together with Kickstad, Studio for New Realities, Dick van Veen, ToekomstEnergie, the Municipality of Vlaardingen, and residents, we will create an attractive public space. Our goal is to transform the Rivierzone into a lively destination for the people of Vlaardingen by focusing on green connections between city center and river. Rivierzone as the place you want to be!

Bart Bikkers, Rivierzone alderman:
“The Rivierzone will be cohesively designed into an area consisting of various neighborhoods, each with its own unique atmosphere. Additionally, we strive to create an attractive green connection between the city center and the river in Vlaardingen.”

Mark Spaan, project manager LOLA Landscape Architects:
“Our ambition is to make the Rivierzone, besides connecting, truly a destination for Vlaardingen. A place you want to be. As designers we look forward to and realizing this together with the city and its residents.”
