New associates LOLA Landscape Architects

LOLA Landscape Architects is proud to announce the appointment of Leire Calvillo, Mark Spaan and Giulia Repici as new associates and welcome them to the management team. By joining the management, a big leap has been made towards making the organization more future proof. The new associates bring additional experience and expertise to the organization. By expanding its team of partners and associates, LOLA is well-positioned for new developments that will drive growth in the organization’s size and the diversity of its projects.

Leire Calvillo has been working at LOLA Landscape Architects since 2014, where she is responsible for many landscape design projects, such as Spoorzone Zwolle, several projects in Leiden such as Museum Volkenkunde garden, Cultuur Kwartier and The Meelfabriek Garden. She is also involved in numerous international projects in Spain, Korea, Portugal and China. Leire is experienced in designing large-scale and complex urban projects.

Landscape Architect Mark Spaan is working at LOLA since 2018. His expertise on both the large scale and the detail ensures inspiring and solid projects both in and outside the Netherlands. Mark has a hands-on approach and has a strong

perseverance to ensure that projects are successfully implemented without losing sight of quality. He often works on our Dutch projects, but he also successfully leads several projects in Belgium.

Giulia Repici joined LOLA in 2017 and is working on a wide range of projects, from concept to construction. Her architecture background combined with landscape design expertise has fostered a strong cross-disciplinary approach. In addition to her design work, Giulia specializes in BIM management and has a keen interest in integrating new technologies. This combination of creative thinking and technical expertise supports her role in shaping efficient, future-oriented design strategies.

LOLA Landscape Architects was founded in 2006 by Peter Veenstra, Cees van der Veeken and Eric-Jan Pleijster. In 2022 Brigitta van Weeren and Artur Borejszo joined the management team as associates. The office is working on leading projects on various continents. Projects in city centers, city edges and in the countryside. LOLA has branches in Rotterdam and Shenzhen and consists of a team of over 40 passionate employees.

Giulia Repici, IT
Associate, Senior landscape designer, Project leader

Giulia Repici has been working at LOLA since 2017. With a strong focus on design quality and organizational processes, she excels in complex projects like the Innovation Park Artificial Intelligence in Heilbronn (DE). Her architecture background and landscape design experience enables her to work across disciplines, as seen in the regeneration of the former GALP oil refinery in Matosinhos (PT), where landscape ties into architecture, infrastructure, and urban planning. Giulia develops strong conceptual designs and carries them through to construction, such as in the Stadhuispromenade in Almere (NL). In her daily practice Giulia combines creative thinking through AI and parametric design with technical expertise and BIM management.

Mark Spaan, NL
Associate, Senior landscape architect, Project leader

Since 2018, Mark is working at LOLA as a landscape architect and project leader. He is involved in the design and realization of several Dutch projects, including Lumière in Rotterdam and the Noordpunt Campus in Groningen. He leads the public space design of mayor projects as the Slachthuis Site in Antwerp (BE) and the Rivierzone and District-U, both in Vlaardingen (NL). In addition to design implementation, Mark also contributes to long-term strategic visions, such as Moerbeke 2050 (BE). His ability to operate at both large and detailed scales results in inspiring, well-grounded projects. Known for his hands-on approach and strong perseverance, Mark consistently ensures high-quality project execution from concept to completion.

Leire Calvillo, ES
Associate, Senior landscape designer, Project Leader

Leire Calvillo has been working at LOLA Landscape Architects since 2014. During her career, she has developed a strong interest in projects at multiple scales and a multidisciplinary approach in landscape architecture, urban planning and architecture. At LOLA, Leire is currently working on the design for the transformation of the Spoorzone Zwolle (NL), the transformation of the former cemetery of Begoña in Bilbao (ES) into a public garden and the design of Sanya River Park (CN), first part opened in in spring 2025. Leire previously worked on the winning design proposal for Forest Sports Park in Shenzhen (CH), the Bajeskwartier masterplan in Amsterdam and the final design for the adidas HQ World Campus (DE).
